If there is one thing that I am thankful for is family. Thanksgiving is the major family get-together holiday. Many people love this time of year, while others hate it. Some folks are fortunate enough to have families that can come together and enjoy each others company, and then some are not so fortunate. I’ve known folks where one section of the family doesn’t get along with the other, and it’s cause for a Thanksgiving filled with tension.
The one thing I am thankful for is family. Many people have certain criteria when it comes to who is considered to be a part of their family. For some, it’s only immediate family, or only blood relatives, or those who married into their family. For me, family is not just blood relatives or those related by marriage. Having lived away from home for so long, family now includes the friends I’ve made along the way. And for them, I am truly thankful. (more…)
Petunia and Dad
Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there. Enjoy your day!
As a first time working mom, I have so many good intentions. I surf the web and bookmark so many cool sites to go back and check out, I drool over the neat pins on Pinterest, and I even put sticky notes on the pages of the local kids news magazine of the fabulous places I’d like to take my daughter on the weekends.
The recipies, the arts and crafts, the diy home improvement projects, the sewing tutorial of the pillowcase dress that I just know would be so cute on her – such good intentions…
The truth of the matter is that I can barely keep up with all of the laundry, and its a miracle if I can keep the living room clear of all of Petunia’s toys for at least two days in a row.
When I go back and revisit some of these great ideas, I must admit I sometimes feel kinda bad. Like I’m a slacker or something. I sometimes wonder did they forget to sprinkle the Super Woman dust on me? LOL! Where are you all finding the time??? How do you manage it all? Do you have any good tips? Do share.
As a new blogger, the question that I’m asked most often is, “What’s a beignet”?
A beignet, pronounced ben-yay, is a warm delicious bite of powdered sugar goodness, served in batches of 3… waiting to be enjoyed with an ice cold glass of milk, or a hot cup of cafe’ au lait. Mmmm…
Beignets are the only food item on the menu at Cafe du Monde. Open 24 hours a day, in the heart of the New Orleans French Quarter, Cafe du Monde has been serving up beignets since 1862.
According to the Cafe du Monde website, beignets are square French-style doughnuts, lavishly covered with powdered sugar. Umm, we won’t talk about calories here. FYI, if you’re visiting New Orleans, a city that’s known for its food, any calorie counting goes out the window.
Beignets are my absolute favorite dessert, breakfast food, anytime of the day food – doesn’t matter. On Petunia’s very first birthday, we took a trip to Cafe du Monde for breakfast – had to teach her early!
Love at first bite!
The next time you’re in the Big Easy, definitely grab a table at Cafe du Monde. You may leave covered with powdered sugar, but it’ll be well worth it!
