When I was shopping for wall décor for Petunia’s nursery, I fell in love with a personalized wall hanging I saw in a children’s boutique.  Wooden letters that spelled out the child’s name were each individually decorated to coordinate with your nursery colors.  I thought it was the coolest thing, but at $12 per letter, ummm… no.  My baby has 7 letters y’all!  So, what did I do?  I studied those letters, and made a mental note that I could do it myself!

Well, that was two years ago.  Petunia no longer has a “nursery”, but I still wanted those letters.  I was determined to have those letters!  So after gathering left-over craft items I already had at home, I set out for Michaels and Walmart.  Between the store and my basement, I was able to gather the wooden letters, glitter, scrap booking paper, ribbon, pearl strands, rose appliques, Mod Podge glue, white spray paint, a glue gun, staple gun and some glossy finish acrylic sealant.

I purchased the letters unfinished and spray painted them white.  Every other letter I covered with purple glitter by first brushing the letter with Mod Podge and then sprinkling with glitter.  Once completely dry, I repeated this step for better coverage.  Once this second layer was dry I sprayed the letter with a glossy protective finish to prevent any glitter from falling off.  I then finished the letters off with decorative rose appliques for a girly touch.

The remaining letters I covered with the scrap booking paper using the Mod Podge.  These were a bit more difficult as I had to use a blade to trim the paper off of the letters.  Because I did not do such a good job for this step, I ran back to Michaels, purchased a few strands of pearls, and hot-glued them around the edges of the papered letters to hide the imperfections.

I cut strips of decorative ribbon and attached them to the back of the letters with a staple gun.  I then used the glue gun to cover the staples with the excess ribbon.

And there you have it!  My DIY personalized wall letters!

Are you a DIY-person?  Have you ever seen something in a store and DIY’d it?

Thank you! It wasn’t too difficult. If you’re good with scrap booking paper, there are plenty of themed options out there for boys.

I love these! I did letters for both of my boys but these take the cake! You could make them and sell them online!

I agree with Carli. I would totally buy these. I love to craft but my patience is null and void. I will start out good and then somewhere along the line I start rushing and the total project doesn’t end well.

Thanks! Who knows, maybe if I can perfect it, this could be my new side hustle. LOL
